Default Which water pump?

2001 360 4x4

Which water pump does everyone recommend as a replacement? My original water pump lasted until 2011, and I had it replaced by a local shop. These guys are pretty good and they claimed that they do not use refurb parts. Now I think it's going out again. There's some play in the pulley (grabbing the fan, you can move it back and forth) which doesn't seem right to me.

The original one started squeaking and it sounded like bearings going out. I thought it might be the belt so i replaced that and the squeak was still there. Then i replaced the tensioner. Still there. Went ahead and replaced the water pump. All noises went away. That was two years ago. Belt and tensioner are both Dayco.

Now the squeaking is back. Looked at the belt and it looks fine. Took the belt off and spun all the pulleys and didn't find any tightness or squeaking. Grabbed the fan and noticed the fan wobbles. Also looks like it wobbles a bit when running, which may be what's causing the squeak.

What should I do here, guys? Thanks!

I bought a cheapo $40 pump from AutoZone with lifetime warranty, haven't had any issues.

And how do you buy a "used" vehicle with only 3 miles on it?

My truck was sold as used because it was bought from the manufacturer with hail damage. They pulled them off the truck with 3 miles on them. They couldn't sell them as new, probably because they made some type of claim with the insurance company. For all other purposes it was new though.

Ok. So I guess I'll just pick one up myself this time and bring it to them. The one they installed has only a one year warranty. This way if it fails again, I'll have it covered.

I would do this myself but I just don't have the time or motivation right now.

IIRC running with a failing water pump can take out the fan clutch and vise versa. So you may have to be replacing both. Someone correct if I'm wrong, but that's what I've heard.

My GMB pump from advance auto has been good for 1.5yrs

If the squealing noise is coming from the water pump, it is most likely the shaft bearing. As for water pumps, the link that moe posted looks solid and there is the option of buying directly from Mopar for around $95. For me, I just did a cheap re-manufactured pump from O'Reillys.

I get the "new" one from Napa. I've had one go bad on a 4.0, but otherwise have had great luck (5 other pumps). They run around $40.

Thanks for the info. I just went and bought one from Advance Auto with a lifetime. We'll see if this one can last more than 2 years.
