Bleeding the brakes; where did I go wrong?
#11
In the 70's I was helping one of my brothers bleed brakes on his Dodge Dart and we absolutely couldn't get the air out. We came to the conclusion that it was due to the cheap *** Puma brake fluid. We pumped that crap out and replaced it with Prestone brand. They bled out and worked fine after that. About a week later I noticed an article in the newspaper about the Fed. gov. not allowing that brake fluid to be sold in the US any longer.
Don't know what brands you're using, but could possibly be a factor although I doubt if you can even get an inferior brand anymore like we did.

i did a google search for the difference between dot3 and dot4. i read a little about the technical details that 4 absorbs less moisture, is slightly thicker, and has a little bit different chemistry, but generally, dot4 replaces dot3. considering that our brakes are pretty much the same parts that dodge used in 1970, i'd say either will work the same.
the last time i bled mine, the front calipers bled out freely like they should. they rear cylinders sort of trickled out like there was a swollen up prostate in the way.

Well, I looked around the bleeder screws and saw some fluid seeping. The front only, not the back bleeders. they were fine, I called Summit Racing because I thought they were defective and sure enough, Summit's sending me a new pair to replace the old ones on the house. Summit is great. They don't give me crappy attitudes like Jegs. I'll check back to let you all know if it worked or not. Thanks for all the suggestions.
