yes it looks like your seal between the tank and MC is in bad shape and might be leaking. i looked in the parts lookups, and i find an MC with tank, an MC w/o tank, but no separate tank, and no listing for the seals.

if you think your MC is good and the seal is leaking, pull the tank off and take the seals and tank to a Napa and/or dealer for a parts match.

Funny it stopped leaking today...

At least I can put that off for a little while now, I'm hoping to not have to touch the brakes until I do my axle swap.

Think it fixed itself... think again.

Part number 4746 394 RESERVOIR, Master Cyl. Brake I would think it comes with the seals.

I'll call up to the store today and see if that part number rings up and what it comes with.

If I replace just the reservoir, do I have to bleed the system?

theoretically no... but yours needs flushing because of the nasty black fluid. just get a helper and quart (or two) of brake fluid and flush each corner until what comes out is clean. refill MC as needed. seems like you can get about 8-10 pedal pushes per fillup. don't let it run dry or you pump air in.

Standard rule is **** with the master, get air in the system or any other parts back you must bleed the system. These are your brakes things that make you stop this is not something to mess around with or cut corners on , if you have no understanding how the system works take it to a shop with a tech that knows what's going on.

In short bleed the brakes.

Not to mention you can get a complete MC from rock auto for like $22 bucks, not including coupon code. You'll pay that much or more at the dealer most likely just for the reservoir, because that's the only place you'll get one, if they are even available anymore.

^^^ I agree, I have not rebuilt a master in decades just not worth it. He asked for that part number so I gave it to him.

I know how the system works, and I have bled brakes on here, brakes weren't quite working right so I bled all four and never had that problem since.

I looked up a new brake master cylinder on First Call, I can get a brand new master cylinder and reservoir for $56.

Or I can get a reman for $36.

I think I will probably just get the reman and drain all the fluid and flush and fill it with DOT3 brake fluid for now.
