Default 2001 rear end out

I have a 01 4x4 dodge that the rear end locked up going through town, after sitting a the mechanic for a a month, they find me a rear end.. For 2k. My buddy rolled his 01 ext cab 4x4 and is willing to sell me the whole truck for 600$! I'm thinking that's my best bet, the question is will that rear end fit right under my truck? And should I consider doing it myself?

Add ALL the info about your truck to your sig and profile please. Thanks. This way we don't have to ask questions like are both trucks 1500's, 2500's, etc..... And you don't need 2 threads going, you could simply ask this question in your other thread. I think I might merge them.

As long as they are the same gear ratio, it will bolt right in and work just fine.

94-01 1500's have a chrylser 9.25, usually in 3.55 gear, sometimes with Limited Slip (LSD), but most often Open. you should be able to find as many of those as you want for about $200-400 or less, especially cheap at the U-pull lots.

the off-road edition had 4.10 gear ratio. some might have 3.92, so you have to match it to your front.

i'm not sure, but the 1500 van, and some durango or dakota might also work. you're on your own there. measure everything to be sure.

edit - watch out there are 2 flavors of drive shaft attachment. early models were u-joint straps. later models were circular flange.

You can walk into any or most U-Pull-It yards and they will give you a print out of all the compatible vehicles that have the part you need.

heres a big hint. DO put anti-seize compound on ALL threads on the bottom of the truck. most of all the brake tubing threads. after 80,000 miles you will glad you did, ie it will come apart when the time comes.

+1.... I'm usually covered with that stuff after doing any work on a vehicle. LOL I'd rather look like the tin man, instead of struggling with broken bolts,
