Default 01 tranmission issue

Hello All.

I have a 2001 ram 1500, 5.9l, 4X4 with 145,000 miles. I don't know what type of transmission I have. The manual says either a 45re or 46re.

The problem is I drove home the other day and everything worked perfectly. The next morning I had a check engine light and my truck was in limp mode. It starts in 3rd gear (it seems to me) and will not shift automatically or manually on the column and there is no overdrive. I went to auto zone to read codes and got a P0753 for the 3-4 shift sensor solenoid. I dropped the pan and replaced the sensor and filter and added fresh fluid. The battery cables were disconnected during this process and the codes were reset.

I started the truck and left it to idle. After about 30 seconds there was a slight whining noise and the check engine light came back on. Back to auto zone to check codes. While driving it is now worse than it was before. Now it will start in 3rd gear again, however it will manually start in 1st, sometimes go into 2nd manually, and then to third. Nothing is automatic and still no overdrive. The big difference I have now is it seems to slip out of gear. In all gears except reverse (works fine) when I hit the gas the rpm's increase without movement and then it grabs and starts forward. When I let off the gas to coast and then hit it again it seems to slip in and out also. And when the truck is at operating temp and I place trans into 1st gear it will stall.

Currently I have codes P0753(again), and P1765 (Trans 12v supply relay control fault.) I have already swapped the relay with a known good relay without change.

I am assuming it is possible I replaced a bad sensor with another bad sensor and its made my problem worse. I plan to change the sensor again since its a warranty item. Before I drop the pan though, is it possible the governor or pressure transducer could be bad without giving a code? Also with what appears to be slippage, could it be the torque converter somehow went bad during this process?

I also wonder if in changing the filter, there was dirt I didn't see or a blockage in the new filter I didn't notice which would prevent circulation of fluid to the converter causing it to slip.

I think there is excess movement in the bands, but I didn't know how to adjust them at the time I had the pan off. Any possibility that could help my problem? Further, I am not even sure what the bands do so what type of improvement should I see when they are adjusted properly.

I called a few transmission shops and they tell me my first step should be to go to Dodge and re-flash the PCM. They say when the code was originally set it may have caused a glitch in the computer. Even though the codes were reset, the computer doesn't know the sensor was changed. Does this make sense?

I appreciate any advice you can give. Although I only commute 3 miles to work, I am sure I have to be doing more damage driving it in this condition. Not to mention hunting season is upon us and the mountains are calling me!!!

Thank you in advance!!
