Default Rwd Transfer

So i have a pretty nice 2wd 01 1500, engine is in very good condition with few miles. No problems and bed and cab is nice. Only problem is I want a 4x4. My friend gave me the suggestion of finding a 4x4 chassis of the same year with the 4wd components (or just a junky 4x4 complete truck), and hook up my engine to it and lift the bed and cab off and transfer them over. Any thoughts or ideas? Is this even possible? Thanks guys

possible - yes, given lots of time and energy. a shop big enough to hold 2 trucks for quite awhile, plus the cost of the donor truck.

practical - not for the average person.

sell the 2wd. buy a 4wd. look for an 00-01 offroad edition which has 4.10 gears and accepts larger tires much better.
welcome to df.

you can swap in a 4x4 solid front axle, xfer case, and front drive shaft, but you will need all the CAD lines also, along with all the right steering hook ups and spring mounts. it is alot of work but could be done yes.... but like they said if your truck is so nice i would just sell it and buy a 4x4 model. it dont have to be the off road edition because they are hard to find. but some came with 3.92 gears in the axles, but most came with 3.55s. 3.55s are just dogs when you go any bigger than a 33" tire it seems.

Sell the 1500 2wd and get a 2500 4wd. Everything you want is already in it.
