I didn't realize that you could have a locker in the rear and not the front, can you still but it in 4 wheel drive and it not cause any problems?

Not a problem. As for who makes the best, that kinda depends on what your daily needs are. If you don't mind some clunking from your rear end, then it's hard to beat a Detroit locker for durability. There are also less beefy units such as the Lock Right. Quieter and easier to install. Then if you want selectability (on/off), then there is the ARB air locker. Really a great unit for the front of your rig, but is very nice to have in the rear end also. Once again, depends on your intended usage. And of course ,with more options the price and complexity goes up. Unless you intend to mud bog or rock crawl alot, I have found a limited slip is more than enough to get your average 4x4 around in all but the nastiest stuff. Happy shopping.

ok heres the thing, I agree with the detroit being the best locker out there but as far as i know. ( along with everyone else on PS.com.) they dont make a selectable type locker for our corp. 9-1/4 rear end so unless you have a Dana 60 or 70, your out of luck for a while. I didn happen to email detroit and asked them and they said that they will be comeing out with and electric locker for out rear end sortly. If you want an auto that fine but i find them alittle annoying. between the faster tire wear, clicking, sometimes churping, and not to meantion the if you need to steer quickly in rain or snow, you might find your a$$ end in front of you before you can blink.

Tani1500 has got a good point, I've always wanted an ARB air locker, also having the onboard air compressor is really useful.

Detroit is the only company you're going to find with a locker for the corporate axle. The problem with the Detroit locker, is it's an auto-locking differential. In other words, it's NOT good for towing. It won't lock/unlock properly on corners when towing loads. So if you don't tow (or tow a lot) you'll be alright with one. If you tow, you better wait for an electronic locker....or for ARB to make an air locker for the 9.25 axle. IIRC, they only have one for the 8.25 right now.

As far as a locker for the front, I would advise against it unless it's a manual locker that is an OPEN differential when it's NOT locked. Automatic lockers just don't work right with the CAD system that Dodge thought was a "good" idea.

Oh yeah, and don't get a lockright locker. They're not worth the $$$. You're better off getting a stock limited slip differential.

Yea, an auto locker in the front is a real no-no for anything other than a bogger or crawler. My bro-in-law thought he found a truck for parts that had a 60 for the front of his 77 ford. When we rolled it off of the trailer and tried to pull it with the four wheeler, we noticed something not right about the front end. Wouldn't steer for crap! Suspected some thing wrong(locked up) in the front end. But after pulling the dif cover we ound that the previous owner, who ran this truck strictly in mud bogs, had welded the front spiders. OOPS, time or a rebuild. Oh well, he got a great c-6 off that truck anyway.
