put in the park/ nuetral switch and the problem remains if not worse. Mounted a TransDapt remote filter in the passenger side engine bay. Fluid and filter change this weekend with a remote filter; we'll see if it is debris.
Pulled the pan and found this

can someone help me identify the part on the right? I think the other is the rest of the OD snap ring, but what the heck is the other part and where does it go

band strut
about 1:39 in the video
sad thing is in Feb I was nervous about adjusting the bands so took it to a shop - this is why I like to work on my own stuff. I will try to repair in the morning and let you know how it works out

unplug your heated o2 sensor an try driving it around. it shares voltage with the governor sensor if it is shorted or bad it will throw the voltage off an not let it shift right
if this works replace the o2
if this works replace the o2
took truck into the shop
ordered a slip in band from WIT transmission - the old band was just rubbing the rivets so I am glad I did that.
When they pulled the valve body down they found another piece of snap ring.
fluid and filter change
put the band anchor back in place
test drive: same problem - starts off in second gear - and still getting the CEL
maybe it truly is the BW governor solenoid even though I just replaced it in Feb. I will call cascade tomorrow and see if they warranty their parts.

reply from cascade via e-mail as there is no phone number on the invoice or their website:
Hello ,
you would be welcome to send them back in to us for review
on average we do see about a 1% failure in these items , which is average on all electrical products
however both items being bad , would be more than rare
please be sure to include a copy of the invoice
once we test the items here we would be happy to replace anything defective

the trans shop was nice enough to give me an known working sensor from one of their old rebuilds. I cant tell if it is a wells or OEM, but now that the cork gasket they put on the pan is leaking maybe I will have them swap it out for testing.
