Unhappy Transmission issues.....help?

Ok so gonna start at the beginning with this. Been having tranny problems for a few weeks and I am getting overwhelmed with all the possible problem areas of these trannies. I don't want to start replacing parts one at a time trying to fix it just to find out I need to replace or rebuild. Sensors? Torque converter? Even found a post that said may be related to fualty alternator?

Basically when I start the truck and put it in "D" (drive) It feels like it is under stress or pulling out in second. Does not feel like its slipping. If I stop at a red light or stop sign it does it again. Now this happens about 70% of the time. Other times it does fine. Once it is moving it seems to shift fine. I recently dropped the pan, changed the filter, and put more fluid in it.Little bit of metal shavings on the magnet but nothing major. Yes I checked it in nuetral and the level was fine the old fluid seemed ok as well. Occasionally it has issues shifting through the gears, I take my foot off the gas for a sec and it will shift. Did notice that with OD on, doing 55 on the highway, If I take my foot off the gas and barely touch the break (just enough for the lights to come on) then reapply gas the rpms jump 3-400 higher then drop back to where they were (read to try this somewhere on a TC post). So I dont know if I have a bad torque converter, Governor solenoid and pressure switch, or TCC solenoid, or a tranny that needs a complete rebuild? I've put 300-400 miles on it since the fluid change and the fluid still looks nice and red.

I've also noticed if I drop the shifter all the way down to "1" it pulls out fine. No stressful feeling. Also Pulls out fine if I put it in "2".

Check adjustment of TV cable to start with. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2nd-gen...-in-trans.html A 97 may be a little different procedure, A haynes manual will help with that, you should have one anyway.

Check for any codes also, http://dodgeram.info/Engine-Gas/OBDI/pcm_fault_code.htm

After that, I'd replace the gov sensor and solenoid, TCC/OD solenoid unit, and adjust the bands while the pan is off. Install a drain plug in the pan next time you remove it also.

Talking Thanks for the help!!!!

Recently had some transmission problems and thought I was definitely looking at a rebuild. Cant thank you enough Zman. replaced the 2 sensors and a broken accumulator spring and I have what feels like a brand new transmission. Saved me about $1300.
