Default heater core

is it possible to NOT have a leak but still smell antifreeze?
i have zero leakage anywhere. not even out of the small tube through the fire wall. non on the floor. but when i first start the heat it does have a smell. could it be possible that the previous owner fixed it already and still have left over smell? the only thing i did notice is that there is a LOT green antifreeze in the radiator. i mean its hulk green. maybe to much antifreeze/coolant. cause i do smell it from time to time at the engine while running.
