Default truck won't go over 50 mph. please help!

I am driving down the highway and I can't get past 50. if I am cruising and step on it the rmps go up 500-700 and no down shift and no increase in speed. if I drive normal on city roads it seems totally fine and shifts through all the gears normal. it also seems like it only does it once it gets warm, but I will make sure. there is no abnormal noise at all. in park and revving the engine is also normal. no check engine light. whats wrong???

Your cat could be partially plugged. I had a 1998 Ram for 14 years. I think i went thru 4 cats. The reason for so many towing a 5th wheel, they are not made for that type of heat while towing, tried different ones, same result. I have moved on now to a 2012 Ram Outdoorsman, with the towing package and 3:92 axle, pulls the fifth wheel along very nice. Hope this helps.
cheers

Looks like you've fixed the plenum, have you checked it to make sure problem hasn't returned?

Same goes for the cat.

I'm wondering about your O/D. Mine kicks in religiously at 50mph, regardless of driving conditions. If your O/D is shot, but the rest of the tranny doesn't recognize it, that could be your problem.

+2 on checkin the cat. u can drive around and get everything warm at night and see if it glows, or just take the o2 sensor out and drive it and see if it goes away

if I do a pressure test on my exhaust for the cat what should I have before and after the cat for p.s.i. ? I don't think it's the o/d cuz I could force the truck to do this in any gear. u know it kind of acts like the tranny is slipping, but I know what a slipping tranny sound like; and the engine won't rev over 3000 and if I try to go more the power output is drastically reduced. I have no symptoms (knock, pinging)that I had before, that led me to a plenum fix but I will double check.
should I do a stock replacement, or a universal. im afraid to snap bolts on the manifold if I do go with a stock replacement (but would rather have that no)?

i have snapped a couple bolt heads off o nthe manifold, and you can still get the manifold off just slip it up over them. then unscrew ur bolts, unless they break off down at the block. then u gotta drill it. but ur prob sure sounds like a clogged cat. fix that, maybe use a hi-flow from magnaflow. and make sure the plenum aint leaking. if the cat is clogged, you may wanna look at gettin a new pre cat o2 sensor from ntk.

Despite the BS in post 2, here...remove the pre-cat o2 sensor and drive it a short distance. If it's better, replace the cat.

maybe a torque converter issue? a clogged cat won't allow the RPM to increase, and the exhaust sound is like if you try to inflate a plastic bottle with your mouth, (my best description)
