1996 Ram 3500 Exhaust
I have a 1996 Dodge Ram 3500 Flat Bed truck. I suspect Catalytic converter problems. Truck idles and cruises great but has absolutly no power under acceleration. The truck has dual pipes from the maniflds to the cats, 2 cats, and one muffler. The cats have two smaller pipes off of each (air pipes?) back up to the front of the truck.
Well here's the question...im looking at a magna flow replacement which has dual 2" inlets, and one 2.5" outlet because I don't want to buy two cats but this replacement does not have the additional air pipes...will this pose a problem? I will be replaceing the muffler as well with a Flowmaster 50 series truck muffler with single 2.5" in and out, and then just an exhaust tip off the end of the muffler. Goodf plan or am I on a road to dissaster.
Thanks in advance

My brother lost the engine in his pickup with a 360 due to a failed catalytic converter. The catalytic converter was restricting exhaust resulting in high exhaust backpresure which per the dealer resulted in high oil temperature followed low oil pressure and bearing failure. It cost him a full lower end rebuild, crank regrind, bearings and cam shaft.
I have a Ram 3500 Vam conversion with the 318. On my last trip I was noticing a loss of power. When I changed oil it had a burnt smell. Oil pressure is still good, I changed to Mobile 1 oil and had the converter changed. The internals of the converter was loose and could slide back and partially block the outlet.
I personally have no idea if the dealer is correct in why my bother lost his engine but I do know that my converter was a problem and I corrected it.
