Long story short: ****ty tuning dodge put on the trucks from the factory to prevent ping from the plenum issue.
Easy way to tell if your truck has the death flash: Do you hit overdrive around 40mph?

Only way to get rid of it is buy a tuner, Most folks around here recommend the SCT from Hemifever - They will run you somewhere in the area of $300-$400 but its the single best "bang for your buck" upgrade you can get to one of these trucks (Stock)
