Default Used 2001 dodge ram 1500

I will hopefully be buying a 01 dodge w/ 121000 on the "original" motor and trans, says the dealership. In regards to the motor and trans what are some for sure things I should look for.
( I know fluids, dirt, smell, sound) all that when It comes to test driving.
Thanks guys

See if the plenum is done. There is a sticky for the thread at the top of the forum.

I would make sure it shifts up through all the gears smooth and no hesitation or clunking when going from neutral to drive or reverse. See if you can find a hill to listen if it pings or clatters under load or if it feels under powered...clogged cat. I always like to look in the tail pipe to see if it's caked with with black residue or if it's nice and clean.

Thanks ngmillar.
All I can do from my stand point and the truck being with a dealership is look down the TB and look for oil. Hopefully she's nice and shiny.

There's always going to be a little gamble involved even with low mileage. Mine all looked good from test drive last August. 10,000 miles since then and have replaced fan clutch, fuel pump, front crank seal, radiator. Next is plenum plate etc...Happy hunting!
