Default 4x4 not engaging

My 4 wheel drives been a little skittish lately. Have maybe put the truck in four wheel drive all of 5 times for the 3 years ive owned it and its always worked fine. it started acting up a few weeks ago. Got some snow here and was having issues with getting 4x4 to engage and then disengage, you had to really play with it for a while till it finally locked in or disengaged. I went to go pull someone out of a mudhole a few days ago and the truck wouldnt go in at all no matter how much i played with it. Could it be just that the linkage needs to be tightened up or am i looking at a bigger problem here?

on your front axel there is an acuator pull the vacume lines off and see if there is vacume and then if there is put it in 4x4 and check again to see if there is vacume if not you have a broken vacume line

i dont know why i didnt even think to check that haha. trucks has been idling really rough and about stalling out at traffic lights and what not when you hear the motor sucking like there is a vaccum leak. just a matter of trying to figure out where exactly it is i suppose

So your vac lines to the 4x4 could be fine, you just have other massive leaks lol

the plastic lines love to break. They are really brittle

hahaha such a pain. still havent had the time to really try and find it. ive always had a small vaccum leak that would happen every once in a while if you let it idle for lke 10 minutes youll hear it sucking and then the truck idles like it has a giant cam in it. but never happened enough to really bother me. but its gotten more frequent lately right about when the 4x4 quit engaging, so im gonna go with thats whats wrong

went under the truck last night, the vaccum is switching from drivers side to passenger side when you put in 4x4 so the switch is working and there is still vaccum, so thinking the actuators shot
