Default What year did 24v cummins come out?

Ive been looking for a wrecked 2nd gen cummins lately and Ive been trying to decide what years I should search for. I do want a 24v cummins and Im not for sure what year dodge started using them.

Reason for buying a wrecked cummins is that its gonna go into my 1999 1500 ram. However, I also will swap the D60 and 70 axle + suspension and the drive train so itll be fit for a cummins. May do a little frame strengthening as well. Ive heard the frames are all the same on 1500 and 2500 2nd gens, but I still might anyways. Ill be way ahead buying a junker from a insurance sale or a salvage yard then if I go buy a cummins out right running. Id be gold if I could find a truck that had some extensive modding for not much.

What's wrong with a 12 valve? P-pump > VP44...Either is fine just wondering why you'd out the 12v's

If you got the time and money to do this than DO IT!!!!!

Is it the 24v's that you have to watch out for the 53 block that cracks? Or is that the 12v?

24v is more powerful STOCK. 12 valve can be more powerful with mods. However, Ive done some more reading and I am not so sure now.
