1998 Rear Drum to Disc Swap
#21
Update: The rear axle junction block is the same. The one that is stock on my 1998 will bolt to the axle using the vent tube nipple, and while I have yet to verify the hard line fitting size, the disc hard lines from the 2002 axle look like a perfect fit into the junction block from my 1998 drum axle.
While I have the axle in my garage and easy to work on, I am replacing the pinion yoke seal, speed sensor, and the disc axle brake lines. One was kinked, I assume form when it was removed, and the other has cracking in the rubber portion.
The only thing I overlooked so far is the E-brake cables. I assume the lever is the same and as long as the cable length between the lever and the bracket is the same, they will transfer over just like everything else.
To recap, this is shaping up to be a direct bolt in swap and once I have the new parts mentioned above, I will remove the drum axle, and roll this one under and bolt it up. I will take pictures.
I just think it's such a wonderful option for us 2nd Gen guys to have an easy rear disc swap. Maybe I'm making this out to be a bigger deal, but I HATE rear drums and a truck as heavy as ours needs to have rear discs. YES I know you heavy duty 2nd Gen Ram guys have already had the rear disc option, but you shouldn't be reading this thread anyway. LOL.

Sorry guys, the project was completed a long time ago, but like a bonehead I started a new thread instead of updating the old one.

I felt it was easier to side step all the back and forth banter leading up to the swap.
