If you are only towing 4,000 a load range D (8 ply) tire would be enough and you can prolly get by with a load range C (6 ply). Where ever you have heard about michelin tires blowing out the people are either full of ****, didn't have the right air pressure or was completely overloading the tires. My dad has ran michelin load range E on 3/4 tons and hauled over 15,000# and never had a problem. Some of the better tires out there. Check out semis. The drivers who can afford them love using them as steering tires.
Yep everyone I have heard about and my experience has been that Michelin's are good. I might run them now if they made a mud tire. I don't run them on my other truck or car though as for cars I like Toyo better and for the truck it isn't used that much so we just put a set of BFGs on it. I would look for some Toyo AT's though. Maybe some BFG AT's. Michelin's are good but I'm not impressed with there truck lineup.
