Default 1996 1500-5.9l

I have this 1996 1500-5.9L engine that will start sometimes, now it will not start, even with a jump. absolutely no power. I tried a obdII reader on it but it did not read anything, it told me to reinsert and try again. Help. could it be the brain box?

Absolutely no power? Is the starter turning the engine when you turn the key to start? If not, check your battery connections - be sure that they are clean and free of corrosion - also, ensure that they are tight on the battery posts. Also, have your battery checked too.

Sounds like it's time for a starter or your battery is bad. I'd load test the battery 1st to ensure it has enough power to turn the starter. Just because cab lights come on does not mean the battery has enough juice to turn the starter. If you don't have a way to load test the battery, remove it and take it to a parts store, where they can test it.

If the battery is OK, then the starter or a connection to it is likely bad.

I tried to check it with a OBD Actron reader, but it won't read anything. It tells me to plug it in and try again.

An OBD Actron reader has no way to load test the battery - it is primarily a code reader. Please remove the battery and take it to your local auto parts store to have it properly load tested. Most reputable auto parts stores test batteries for FREE! If you'd like the capability to test it yourself, go to Harbor Freight Tools (or via the Web) and purchase a battery load tester for about $20 - http://www.harborfreight.com/http-ww...9191-html.html

Also, when you have a moment, please update your profile to include your truck's information (year, make, model, 2WD or 4WD, auto vs. manual trans, etc.)

Check your fuse box, I blew the ignition fuse one time, everything worked as is should but when you turned the key to crank the engine nothing happened, but lights, radio, and gauges all worked fine
