Default throttle body mod questions

ok so I decided to clean up my TB this weekend and had a question.

can these 4 tabs be removed ? my TB looks like this now. just wanted to know if I can take these off or if I need them for some reason.

Those tabs are there to effectively align your air filter housing. if you plan to run an air filter on this motor, I would not remove them.

You could thin or taper the inside of the ones on the side, to cleanup airflow a bit... front and back arn't doing any harm as is.

sweet thanks guys.


also, I had the hissing everyone talks about before, I noticed the plunger at the back, ( not sure what the name is) is where the hissing was coming from. looked like it wasn't closing all the way so I made sure to clean this part and the area it went real good. now it appears to close completely.


what is this part, is it suppose to be completely closed or partially opened? just curious since my truck seemed to run fine before.

That's the idle air control solenoid, it will open or close as needed to adjust the idle.

If you stay with the factory air cleaner I'd leave the tabs there. I got a modded TB and it doesn't have the ones by the butterflies and it makes it a bit of a pain to make sure the little gasket stays in place.
