Setting Up My "New" 2nd Gen
I had a 2000 Durango for 10 years.. after 265,000+- she started going bad and I had to junk her. Never thought I would be sad letting a vehicle go. After a year or so I finally found the truck I like, and want to fix up (Decided I would rather a project than a payment)
So I found this 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2 4x4 Richard Petty Sig Edition w/100k - nice truck, runs great. Most things were gone through - brake lines, tank straps, ball joints and some other items recently before my purchase. It has no exhaust, shocks are shot and needs a tie rod mechanically, some typical body rot issues with doors etc but very minor and I'm having a good body guy get me a price to fix those issues.
I purchased a Flowmaster Amer thund cat back exhaust and Bilstien HD shocks already and waiting for the delivery.
My plan is to have this as my daily driver and to tow my bass boat so I was looking for suggestions on what I should do to make sure she is ready for the task! Fluids, upgrades etc. (CAI already there, I may upgrade it though it looks cheap)
its so nice with no payment so I can make the truck the way I want it without worrying about warranty nonsense!

Check the plenum sticky at the top of the forum!
Get a stock air box system. It is actually more cai then any standard "cai" out there sucking up hot engine heat.
Change the fluid in everything. Diffs included. And see what you find!

Wait did you say richard petty Sig edition? Is that a thing?

I posted photos in an album, "Apparently" they made 500 in 1997, I'm waiting still for Chrysler to get back to me about it. Its missing a few key items - original wheels and front bumper lip mainly, so I don't plan on doing an exact restore. Can't fine the dang lip anywhere haha!
I know the fluids were changed recently as well, the previous owner had the whole thing gone through but I'm thinking all synthetic change over would be better regardless?
The CAI I was thinking the same thing.. how cold can the air be with the filter right over the manifold? hmmm? haha!
