engine wont gain rpms when at full throttle mid to high rpms
i was thinking i had a clogged fuel line or fuel filter. because i was told that if u want to long and then put fuel injector cleaner in, it can break up things in your gas tank and clog your filter. the tank i have right now has the injector cleaner in it. it does fine at low rpms but if i get on it i fells like it has no torq and rpms climb very very slow. ive had to just let my foot out of the gas and let it shift so i can go faster. a couple of times i felt it cutting out. so can ne one give me any other explanations for this behavior. and if u do think its a clogg can u tell me where to find the fuel filter. its a 5.9L 360 reg cab 1998
It could be a clogged cat or a clogged air filter. both will do the symptoms your talking about.
to test the cat, take it to a muffler shop and have them put it on a lift, sit in the drivers seat and rev the motor to 2000~2500 rpms and with a temp sensing gun, measure the input and output temps of the cat. if the input is higher than the output, the cat is clogged, if the input = output, the cat is not working, if the output > input by > 30 deg then the cat is working.
the fuel filter is in the tank and is part of the fuel pump assembly.

You can test the fuel pressure. That would be one way to figure out if the flow is restricted. As mentioned above, the filter is part of the pump assembly and the tank must be dropped to replace it. If that's the case, you're better off replacing the whole pump...because it WILL fail. The only question is when
It could be a clogged converter though. That's the first thought I had when I read the thread title. You'd have to take it to a shop and have it tested, or cut it out and replace it with a straight pipe for testing purposes. If it's bad, you'll need to install a new converter.
The air filter could also be clogged, but if would have to be clogged BADLY to hinder performance that much.

Was there recall on the 98 cats, ive heard from my friends that there was. i was going to chack at the dodge dealer today but it was closed. can ne one confirm this recall. im pretty sure its my cat my exaust has gotten alot quieter, cleaned that airfilter too didnt do anything so its not that.
if it was your fuel filter and you were testing the fuel pressure, you wouldnt know it until the demand was high enough to drop the pressure, as in high rpm's. I still say it's the cat. do the test on it and let us know how it turns out.
just going to throw this out there but ever thought of the timeing chain ?

it seems to be gitting worse though... now i can only hold full throtle at 3100 rpm and then it cuts out .would do u guys think the fuel injector cleaner finished off my cat
get the cat tested today. start there and let us know what they tell you.
