Default 97 fuel rail question

Hey all,
I have a 97 1500 5.9 and am having problems with a gas leak. My fuel line and fuel rail are having problems connecting. I don't have the clips that secure the metal elbow to the fuel rail, which go over the plastic housing. It seems that all the trucks I find around here at the salvage yards have a different connection (the one that needs the special tool to get off).
Question for you experts, can I take the fuel line off one of these along with the fuel line (just the front part) and get rid of the one I have now? That way I wouldn't have to worry about trying to seal this thing.

p.s. My Chilton book shows the plastic housing, but I can't find any old trucks with that type of connection.

Thanks
