Painting Lower Half to Match Top Half?
Hey guys,
This is my ram:

Now, while I think it's beautiful truck as it sits, I've come across this photo...

And I think with the exception of the wheels, that might be about the best looking truck ever.
So that's got me thinking, according to the equipment listing for my truck, the paint name for the maroon is Dark garnet red pearl....which duplicolor sells in aerosol cans here:
Amazon.com: Dupli-Color BCC0413 Dark Garnet Red Pearl Chrysler Exact-Match Automotive Paint - 8 oz. Aerosol: Automotive
I'd rather not pay out big money to have a shop color match and paint it because there is door rust and the job isn't going to look perfect anyway, but since it's in aerosol...is this doable without it looking like total ****?

That truck does look good.
I've painted a few commercial truck hoods and grilles using Duplicolor. Their cans have very good fan spray buttons that make the job easy and the paint goes on evenly so it looks good. The clear really makes it pop and has very good durability.
That will look nice, go for it.

The stealership usually also stocks or can at least order spray cans of factory colors. I'd guess that they would be a little better than duplicolor. Also, Imatch paint's products look good as well. I say go for it and make sure you give us plenty of pics!
As stated, I have used Imatch tons of times. Their paint is top quality and their clearcoat is as good as any body shop. I've painted parts on vehicles that folks tell me look as good as any body shop can do. It's all about the prep though. Skimp on the prep and no matter what you use it will look like doo-doo.
