Default no Overdrive and Trans. Temp. Sensor

I have a 2000 Dodge ram 1500 5.2ltr with a 46RE transmission that will not shift into overdrive. All other gears shift perfectly. I also don't think the TC is locking up. The RPM's go up significantly with no MPH increase when pressing on the gas at any speed. My question is regarding the 4th and 3rd generation governor pressure sensor(and temperature sensor). I just read where they are not interchangeable however a list of symptoms are not described when the incorrect part is used.
Description of problem:
My truck previously had the 4th generation governor pressure sensor which includes the temperature sensor. I purchased a used transmission from a 2000 Dodge ram 1500\5.2l that also has the 46RE. I assumed everything would be the same however I have read that some early 2000 46RE'S were equipped with the 3rd generation governor pressure sensor which is not interchangeable with my trucks 4th generation wiring.
Question:
What symptoms would I have if the used transmission I installed has the 3rd generation governor pressure sensor?

edit:I clarified the governor pressure sensor.
