Default intake block

I bought a1994 1500 dodge ram. The engine was sputtering. So after replacing a few sensors I took the plenum off to clean everything and see what is going on. The engine block where the pistons are Is deformed. The is no point of impact but there is definitely chuncks missing. Everything around the missing pieces is intact. I can't believe it was running like that. Someone told me on rare occasions bad casts are still used if the form and function are not affected. I has anyone heard of this?

You should only be able to see the pistons if you pulled the cylinder head. As was mentioned, please post a picture of what you are seeing, so we can better understand what the issue may be.
