I'd go #1 . Hemi beats the 4.7 all day . I've had both . 4.7 is great around town but lacks a lot on the hwy IMO . With the auto , the 4.7 is not easy on gas either , stick is much better . I would say they are comparable in MPG , which makes the Hemi a better choice IMO . Besides , who doesn't like Black

I agree. I'd go for the hemi for sure. That said, I'd really go with neither. I'd not buy a modified vehicle again. IMO I'd look for a stock one that older someone has babied and then modify it how you want it. 95% of the time modified vehicles have had the crap beat out of them their whole life.

I wwould never want to buy a an old man babies truck because in my experience they fall apart as soon as you actually start using it.

Yo idk much about third gens but my bud has an 05 1500 4x4 Hemi. It has IFS like they all do and rides on a cloud of back saving softness.

But it is not as tough as these old second gens. His wheel fell off on the highway.

Idk I'm biased go ask the third gen board. Maybe you have already.

I had this post over in the 3rd Gen also and another member. Had a good point.. He said .

Up to you,,, but I would find out which one has had the rear end replaced and with what. Rear end failure is certain on both vehicles.. at least on the 04 it is,, pretty sure 05’s have the same posi clip problem too. both are good years though.

I'll never again buy a vehicle that I intend to drive if my inspection turns up so much as a rounded bolt head, let alone a substantial modification. I can accept a minor modification, something like, say, a dual battery setup, if the workmanship is quite good. Anything more and I'll leave it to become someone else's problem. I might be way too picky, and I might have passed on some darn fine trucks in the months I spent looking for the one I've got, but here it is almost five years later and I don't regret holding out. None of those I passed by could have been any better than the one I've got, but they surely could have been a lot worse.

I finally found some evidence of a not quite right repair on my Ram: One of the Tinnerman clips for mounting the radiator was replaced with a nyloc nut.

Dont bother with a 4.7. The hemi gets the same mileage, and has waaaay more power. 03-04 hemis have valve spring issues so be careful there. Id honestly look for one that is 06 up if I were you, that way you get the MDS (4 cylinder shutoff) and coil-over type IFS instead of the torsion system. The torsion system in the 02-05 are known for being harder on front end parts, at least from what Ive seen. They should be just a little more in price range than the rigs youre looking at now.
