Looking these trans up, they have diifferent part numbers The one for the 5.2 is A141016 at Autozone and the one for the 5.9 is A141024.They are both labeled as 46RE, though. What is the actual difference in them? Is it just that they have different designations for different engines or is there a physical difference? Sorry for all the questions, just want to stay on top of that I am doing while learning as much about my workhorse as I can.

Do they come with a torque converter? That may be the only difference.

Not sure but I got the converter when I got my "new" transmission. When I looked them up again, the only difference I saw was the 1500, 5.2 trans said

"46RE (RWD) 5 Pin Neutral Safety Switch with An All Plastic Transducer Inside Pan on The Passenger Side"

and the 2500, 5.9 trans said

"46RE (RWD) 5 Pin Neutral Safety Switch"

Anyone? Is the "all plastic transducer inside pan on the passenger side" on the 5.2 (old transmission) but not on the 5.9 (new transmission) going to make a difference?

I am not even sure which transducer they would talking about though.... the only one I can think of would be the pressure transducer (sensor). Can't say that 'all plastic' is exactly confidence inspiring......

That said, the transmission have the same electrical connectors regardless of what engine it sits behind. And things work exactly the same way.

I thought the same thing about the "all plastic" thing. That would be my biggest secret if I were them. But, as long as it will work and everything is the same, I am happy. The "transducer" they refer to is in the pan it says. May be a part I can swap out later with a better one later if need be.
