Lets suppose I buy a new torque converter (for the 5.2). In that scenario, since the new TC would be balanced internally, I am good using my flexplate and will be better on the new transmission because I have the new TC, Is my thinking correct? If so, I can order the new catalytic converter today and have it about Tuesday.

Balance is done by the flex plate, torque converter should be neutral balance for either engine.
New converter really isn't a bad idea.... it is never going to get any easier than when you have the trans laying on the floor. :) |

The 5.2 is internal balance, so, the flexplate is neutral balance. The 5.9 is external balance, so the harmonic dampener, and flexplate doe the balancing. On 5.9 before 96, (I think) the flexplate was the same as the 5.2 flexplate, and the balance weights were on the torque converter......
Havin' fun yet? |

Use the 5.2 flex plate you already have on the truck , and the donor TC .
