Please help with my trans swap!!! Auto to nv4500
This is my first time posting so sorry if it's not where it should be. Anyway, the 47re auto took a dump on me. My truck is a 97 1500 extended cab 4x4. 5.9 engine. I don't wanna pay to have a junk trans rebuilt. Plus I can't stand automatics. I have access to a 94 ram 2500 with a 5.9 gas motor and nv4500. They seem to be a rare find. Truck is 4x4 also. But standard cab long bed. It has 60,000 miles on it! Tranny is solid I drove it. For 1300 I can have the truck minus the motor. Or for 2,000 I can have everything. If I let him have the motor am I missing out on anything? What else will I need? Please help I'm in a hurry.
You have a gas 1/2 ton? Then you have a 46re, not 47.
Anyway, if we're talking gas motors and your motor is ok, then save yourself $700.
Consider putting a new rear main seal and clutch kit in while you've got it split. You may need to get a driveshaft hacked together out of the two. Heck, if his differentials are good you may want to take those and upgrade yourself.
There's about an inch and a half difference in wheelbase between the qcsb and the standard cab long bed, iirc. Driveshaft may be different lengths. He's going to have a beefier rear u-joint, and the xfer case output may be different too.

Buuy the truck for 1300.Buyy a flywheel and pilot bearing assemblyy.
That nv4500 has a 23 spline so youre good there For mating to t case. But you would want the 241 out of the other truck.
Put the axles under your truck.
Use those drive shaftS. All done.

Thanks for the response guys. Do they make an adapter to fit my half ton rear with a 3/4 ton driveshaft? Only asking because I need the truck and if I can wait to swap rears till it's warmer out that would be great. Also what about my trucks computer? Do I need a flash or anything? Thanks for the help. I'll make a build thread out of this as I go to help anyone else out. I wasn't expecting to find a 5.9 gas motor with the nv4500 and 4x4. This is the first one I've seen.

They do make a conversion u joint. The part number escapes me.
Your computer will throw codes but shouldn't effect drivability of the truck.
My only problem is when I'm coasting and push the clutch in looking to downshift it will die unless I just tap the gas pedal a little bit. Not sure if that's specific to a problem I have or the fact that the auto pcm expects the torque converter to drag the engine and help maintain rpms?

The truck is rotted. Terribly.
You guys a are a great help. Also I'm getting a good deal right? 1300 isn't bad for a nv4500, tcase, 3/4 ton rears, and the rest of the truck. It only has 64,000 on it. I drove the truck a little bit and it seems solid. Just won't have the motor. Maybe I can get him to throw in the pcm for some extra.
