Altering stock items can void you warranty. Think of it this way if you rewired your TV do you think the manufacturer is gonna warranty your work. Now if you went to a junk jard or someone like fastman and altered that one and installed it if an issue came up it can be taken off.

I wonder if they would have to be able to show that the modifications made directly contributed to whatever warranty related issue you are bringing your pickup in for. Anyway, I also doubt they would notice. It is hard to tell it has been done unless you know what your looking for.

I think only aftermarket stuff voids the a warranty...
Aftermarket stuff can only void your warranty if said parts actually caused the damage being claimed under the warranty. This is stated in the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)). The gist of the law is that the use of an aftermarket part alone is not cause for voiding the warranty.

“No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumers using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name...” (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)).
