Rear End Problems
Hey all! So I was driving down the street last night when all of a sudden I heard a crack, and my truck would go into gear, but it wouldn't grab the gear and move. I stopped and tried again to put it into gear and it would go in gear, and the drive line was still working but my back tires weren't turning. I put it in four wheel drive and my front tires still worked so I'm guessing something broke in my rear end. I haven't taken it down to a mechanic yet, but I was wondering what you guys thought it might be and what I should expect to pay. Thanks for any insight and words of advice, and I hope you all have a good day!
First off fill out your profile with your vehicle info as it makes it easier to help.
Next is your other option is to just get a new rear axle and replace the broken one. All you need to do is make sure the replacement axle has the same gear ratio as you have now. Go to www.car-parts.com and do a search for a rear axle in your area and see how much they want for it then compare that to what a shop is going to charge to rebuild your rear axle if that is what is wrong. Just offering up other ideas.
