Help me before I buy this truck
I am about to buy a 2001 Ram 1500 regular cab, v6, 5 speed with 68,000 miles. What are some things I should look for before I buy it? Anyone have the v6/5 speed combo, how does it drive and what kind if mileage do you get? I am trading my 97 explorer v6 4x4 in on the Ram, will the ram be as fast as the explorer?
Thanks
Thanks
dont get it. get one with a v8 or get a dakota v6 4x4 if your set on the v6. the power is not enough for the ram. I have a v6 5sp in my dak 2x4 std cab and I get 18~19 mpg hiway
edit: oh yeah, forgot to mention, plenum gasket fails often and needs an updated gasket or the pefered route of an aluminum plate on the bottom instead of the steel one. throttle bodies get gunked up and need to be cleaned, usually caused by a leaky plenum. there is a bearing in the rear diff that can become noisey too... this is all i can think of at the moment...

look at the dash as well man! Those bastards are so prone to breaks that the list for gauranties for life; ie, death, taxes now include cracked dashes on our model year. I'll second steve on this, get a V8. You'll want the power.
Thanks for the reply! I think I have finally decided on getting a dakota. There are a few around my area that i will go and look at today, I think all of those have have v6s.
If you have your heart set on a V6 get a 2002 or better. The new v6's in them are more powerful. Old v6 was the 3.9L and the new one is 3.7L. There get better gas mileage too.
