Stock Radio Issues
My 1997 SLT has the super duper tape player and Infinity sound system. The problem is that tapes don't play worth a damn, and turning the volume up or down is problematic. When trying to turn the volume up, you can turn and turn and turn and nothing happens. Then, *BOOM*, it goes way up. The same applies when trying to lower the volume. I take it this is typical with these radios? I am contemplating getting something aftermarket but am unsure what brand/model would be useful. I am thinking of getting a radio with a CD player.
Any suggestions/feedback? Thanks.

yes i would go with a cd player, no more rewinding and all that jazz. as for brands look around at the top brands and ones who have been around the block a while. i used to have a jensen whiich was good in my car. they are easy to do even if u have never really done anything like that. just buy the wiring harness atwal-mart and it plugs directly in with the stock wiring, but then u do gotta wire everything from the harness to the cd player, but its all color matching.
Definitely switch to the CD player. All the top brands make good stuff (obviously), but most also make a chassis that will bolt straight into a Dodge w/o the need for an install kit. They maybe a little pricier but they look much better. And yeah, a good wiring kit makes the install a breeze.
When you are ready to buy goto http://www.crutchfield.com/S-pvAF5ALAsTK/
they give you a free mounting plate so you dont have a gap in the dash. They also give you a free wiring harness.
I bought a alpine from them a few weeks ago and its just great
