Best cold air intake for 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 sport
So I've been searching around for a cold air intake for my 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 sport, it's the 360 magnum 5.9L and I was just wondering what the best options were, I want to get a k&n intake but I don't know which one would be best, or even fit, Let me know what I should look for thanks!

They all tdo the same thing, and none are truly "cold air" unl;ess you get the filter section out of the engine bay. It will sound cool, thats about it. Find one that fits your budget. Here's a good thread to read. Been discussed to death.

Stay away from the 14x3 round air filter, unless you have a functional hood scoop it's just going to get heat soaked...Stock is better than one of those.

A 14x3 sounds so cool though. Sucking up all that air.
There's a thread on a Dakota forum. Someone took a bunch of temp readings and the 14x3 is only a couple degrees hotter than other styles. Going down the road it's basically indentical. At idle it is gets just a little warmer. The fan moves a lot of air. A functional hood scoop would obviously provide great benefit to a 14x3. |
You're probably right about going down the road, I have a 14x5 on my Dakota, but I have a scoop.

I have the K&N... I removed the rubber baffle next to the radiator, so once moving, it gets a good blast of ambient air.

This was brought up before, I don't know if they still sell the the true "ram air" set up anymore. There is a air cleaner piece that goes on the throttle body(extra cost) and it was not supplied with the hood. When i bought this there was two different hoods, The ture ram air hood and the hood just for looks. Only one listed now. ???
