Ok guys. I heard about the "death flash" on another thread. I looked at my computer and it has a sticker with a bar code on it on top of the other sticker with a bar code on it. The top one says "authorized software update" on it. Is this the sticker that means "you are screwed?" If so - what do I do now? I don't really have $400+ to spend on a programmer. Is there any other way to fix this that is cheaper? How much will fixing the computer benefit me as far as increased gas mileage?

 

That is indeed the "you are screwed" sticker. I have the same one. From what I have read and heard, teh only options to fix it are a entirely new pcm or to use a programmer. The good news is that the price of programmers has dropped alot in the last few months. I found a site that has a hypertech delivered to the door for under $290. I will be getting one as soon as possible to help conteract the death flash.

 

Well I just looked at my computer and it has the same sticker that says "authorized software update". Does this for sure mean that it has been detuned or maybe some other settings. I would really like to know first hand what it means. Maybe they have reprogrammed it to run better but prolly not. Programmer may be in the future.

I just bought a "Superchips" tuner for my 01 ram diesel and now im waiting for the dodge dealer to install a new computer in my truck,
it fried my computer

How did it "fry" your Ecm? I've been installing the superchips programmers in trucks of all makes and models for over 2 years and have never seen one "fry" an ecm. Even if the programmer buggered up the stock programming the dealer should be able to reflash with the original programming. Please advise

 

Yeah please break this down for stupid people like me. What is death flash? Are you saying that this is a code that the truck is calling out? I didnt do any re-programming yet so Im not following anyone..
