1998 1500 5.7 oil pan replacement
I have a leaking oil pan from blistering rust spots. Does anyone know if there is enough clearance or does the engine have to be raised? Any other tips for this project would be appreciated. I replaced the trans oil pan several years ago. Thank you for responses.

The oil pan can be removed without lifting the engine; however, it will go easier if you drop the starter. Also, use a dab of sealant in the corners of the pan gasket where it curves in the back. Another trick is to use a series of small zip ties to hold the gasket in place (leave the holes in each corner open) while the pan is worked back into position. Get the first four bolts started and then as each zip tie is removed, replace it with a bolt.
I did that several times with my 1997, and the zip tie method was the most frustration free. It also ensures the gasket is not pinched or knocked out of place.
