Going to be replacing my steering box with a redhead unit and want to replace my noisy pump at the same time. But what is my safest bet for a replacement? I've heard of others replacing their pumps only for them to whine just as bad. So should I just skip all the usual house brand remains and go straight to the dealership or what?

 

I had a noisy (whine) pump on a 01 caravan. Found out that the screen they had in the reservoir was restricted and was starving the pump. Bought a new reservoir for $25 from the dealer, that fixed it.

Did a quick websearch for someone talking about a screen on a ram, and found this on another forum:

You might try that before swapping pumps for noise.

 

I'm also interested in a quality pump. Mine has been crooked all its life yet still works. But when spending good money on a Redhead, I want to replace it all at once with good new parts. Might ask Redhead what they recommend...
