Default Brake Lights Won't Go Out

I have a 1996 Ram Lariat SLT. My brake lights will not go out. I have tried replacing the switch that interacts with the brake pedal, but no luck. Any ideas? I recently had the rear leaf spring linkage replaced and a new rear bumper installed. Could either of those servicings possibly be the issue?

When you pulled off the terminals to the switch did the lights go out?

^. Did they? Also there is an "adjustment" procedure for the new switch. Check out the 2001 FSM.

Were the brake lights working correctly before the repair work was performed?

Well, I got a new brake light switch installed and adjusted. That fixed the problem for a couple days, when arriving home from a two-hour drive for Thanksgiving dinner the brake lights stayed on again. I made several stops on the way to dinner and the lights were out as they should be. My vehicle sat in the driveway for three hours with the brake lights off. I know I could see the rear of the vehicle the while time I was there. Then, when I get home and shut the truck off, there are the brake lights on again. Any ideas? Any particular issues that would the truck to wreck brake light switches?

There is a slight bit of adjustment you can do when you put the switch on. Make sure the switch is away from the arm before you tighten it down. Also may want to lube the arm itself if it's sticky the pedal wont want to return fully and the light will stay on.
