Default No Spark-1997 5.9L Gas

This past March, my truck wouldn't start. It had very intermittent spark at each spark plug. The distributor cap had lots of evidence of arcing inside it, so I replaced the cap and rotor and it ran perfect for a few months. In June, it started missing and the Check Engine light came on. It indicated a misfire. I re-routed all the spark plug wires as per the TSB and put convolute on all the plug wires. Problem solved, and it ran perfect until this morning. Today it wouldn't start. I pulled the wire off the top of the coil and with a screwdriver checked for spark while cranking the engine, and there was very nice strong spark. I then pulled a spark plug wire off of the front left spark plug and with a screwdriver checked for spark there. No spark. I pulled the spark plug cap off the front right spark plug and again, no spark. Then I had to leave for work with the wife's vehicle so thats as far as my diagnoses went. Am I likely due to replace the cap and rotor again? I need to pick up parts during the day if I want to fix it this evening.

If it is getting spark out of the center terminal then check the other terminal. Pull off the cap

watch the distributor cam turn. Could be a shear pin on the distributor. Sorry for the split reply. LOL

K, got the truck running this evening. The cap and rotor were questionable, so I replaced them. And when I checked for spark in a dark garage, I saw some arcing coming out of the boot of the wire on top of the coil. So I also bought a new wire set but time wasn't on my side tonight to replace all the plug wires so I just replaced the coil wire (the 8 plug wires will be replaced Friday). I also hear the occasional "snapping" noise when it's idling and it sounds like it's coming from the distributor area, so I'll pay special attention to that area when replacing the wires on Friday.

When replacing cap-rotor make sure you get an OEM style! If you dont say anything they will give you one with aluminum inserts instead of the brass ones that the OEM style has.
