1998 Ram 1500 5.2 3:55 4x4 Position related stall
I just bought this truck with 95k miles. It had gone through an auction and it is unclear how long it has been off the road. It is in great shape, no rust [am on the East Coast, Philly]
The 4x4 shifter won't move if the car is stopped/in park. But if I'm rolling a few mph I can move it to any position. At first, if I had it in 2H or 4H it would drive a little then the truck would stall if I stopped. 4L was working normally.
Long story short I put some Lucas Trans conditioner in it and messed around a bit. I figured out that if I started it in Neutral then put it in drive, it worked fine for 2H as well. So I drove it home like that [~40 miles]. I even was able to put it in reverse and then back to drive and finish the last 3 miles and no more stalling.
Any ideas? I plan on having it to the transmission shop tomorrow to have a cooler installed [bought the truck as a tow vehicle] and I will have them look at it.
