2001 Ram 5.9 Rough Idle
I've been having some werid things happening with my truck the past couple days. Yesterday I was at school and I went to start my truck and it seemed like the starter was locked up. I would turn the key and nothing, turn the key and nothing, then it would crank over for a second or two then stop again. After the 7th or 8th time it finally started. It drove just fine after starting, but today I got home and tried to start it, and it would sputter and die. It would stay running if I gave it throttle and held it for about 10 seconds. From what I've searched for the rough idle it seems like a IAC, TPS, or a fuel pressure problem. I have no clue what the starter issue is.
if your turning the key and only getting a single click then your starter is going bad, no sound = dead battery, crank but no start = usually fuel pump. If its doing as soon as it turns over its mostly likely a fuel pressure issue or a failing IAC. trying removing the IAC from the back of the throttle body and cleaning it and its home. If its quite black, then replace it. If you have a fuel pressure guage then check the pressure when cranking.
