If I remember when I rebuilt the 46re in my durango there is a snap ring that hold that together but was seized together. The surface of the shaft had actually came off from heat and it was all purple from it. I had to use a BFH to get it apart. I had a total transmission failure though.

The reason for rebuild is it won't go in reverse stays in drive even in neutral. So mine is probably stuck together too.

I lost torque converter lockup, then one day it got so hot it couldn't even get into gear. I could hardly touch my transfer case shift lever that how hot it was. End of that trans. But yeah put it in a bench vice and pound the shaft out. You may need a new shaft and gear, well any part there that rides on that surface.

The names for the parts are the input shaft and intermediate shaft. I'm pretty sure this is the failure point because the rest of the transmission looks good. I just bought this Ram BTW. The fluid was motor oil black and lots of friction material on the magnet. I've watched teardowns of similar trans. and they have just came apart. This is my first trans. rebuild. I'll let you guys know how this turns out. There is a lack of this subject on the net so i'll be sure to post.

Finally got it apart I just beat the crap out of it with a rubber mallet. The clutches inside are the problem all burned up no friction material left. Will post pics later.
