the code p1740 popped up all of the sudden after I changed my spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. I just had the transmission serviced back in February but they didn't adjust the bands. When I get in the truck after it sits for a few hours and try to start it all I hear is clicks and it doesn't start. Sometimes it won't click at all and if I keep trying it eventually starts.

 

I would clean the battery cables (both ends) and have the battery tested. I agree it probably needs a new starter. I can't help with the code.
