brake fluid to stop tranny slip????
just talked to a mechanic about the typical 46re slip. and he said to put a half cup of brake fluid in. he said the brake fluid softens the seals and it wont slip since the seals arent hard when its cold. anybody else heard or done this?
I personaly have never heard of it and don't think i would trust it. one thing is that brake fluid is hydroscopic and atracts moisture. I wouldn't mix anything with my tranny fluid. If it works great a 5.00 dollar cure, if it doesn't and something happens to the tranny your out a couple grand.
holy s&%t, find a differnet mechanic right away!!!! Putting brake fluid in a trans is a very bad idea. The brake fluid will attract moisture as pointed out earlier but it will also swell the seals in the trans and most likely stick every valve in the valvebody. If it is slipping try a fluid change and band adjustment. If that dosen't help then its time to go into the trans for a freshen up.
And pity the guy that sold it to him if the poor sucker that bought it comes back to execute a bitch slap. Use mopar atf fluid only!!!!!!!!! If you go to walmart and buy some generic fluidt, start saving for a new transmission in about 30,000 miles.
