My understanding is that you always want it in the return line where the pressure is lowest. In my case, the coolers are already full of contamination from the last 2 failures so putting the filter between the coolers and the trans will give me extra protection for the first drive on the new trans. I'll of course be flushing the coolers but it gives me some extra piece of mind knowing that if something doesn't get flushed out it'll hit the external filter.

I would curious to hear more about this. It seems that the "general" consensus here is to put it in the line TO the cooler.

Goes in the supply line to the cooler, the hot line when warmed up.

Ok did some research on Sonnax's website.
The Sure Cure Kit SC-46/47RHE, the one were most familiar with and the one used in the DIY intall on this site, has been discontinued and replaced by Sonnax Zip Kit 46-47RHE-ZIP.
The New Sure sure kit, SC-46-47RHE-OS, has oversize parts and you need special reamers and tools to install in the valve body.
So the Zip kit would be more DIY friendly.
