'96 Ram cutting out under load!

Default '96 Ram cutting out under load!

Hey guys, new member here. I have a 1996 Ram 1500 5.9 that cuts out under acceleration on a cold start, it doesn't matter if it's morning or afternoon or if it's hot or cold outside. The truck will sputter under a load and has stalled at a stop a couple times. But once I drive it for a few minutes she runs like a champ. I recently replaced the cylinder heads after they cracked on me and I installed true dual straight pipes to glass packs. The truck was not doing this before I did those things. Any help is appreciated, thank you.

Either a temp sensor or, maybe, your O2 sensor got damaged (or the wiring)

Since I've replaced both temp sensors when I did the plenum and heads should I start with the O2's? What should my readings be while monitoring the O2's?

is your check engine light on?? if so, what codes do you have? also, did you pull the disturber out when those heads came off?

How bad did your plenum look? You may also have a plugged cat. How did your spark plugs look? They may be fouled.

No I wish it threw a MIL. I did the distributor, cap and rotor as well as plugs and wires when I originally did the intake manifold. I had to go back in after I found out my heads were cracked but I did not touch the distributor at all this time.

Plenum gasket was very bad, I was gonna go for the Hughes kit hut I ended up doing the fel-pro since I needed to have her up and running quickly to get to work. Cat was removed when I did the true duals (Gotta love Florida!) plugs were old and rusty, they're good now after doing the heads.

Then I would check plugs and wires to the temp sensors, and your O2 sensors. When you removed the cat, what did you do about the front O2 sensor? The non-fouler trick? Just removed it but no codes?

I'll check the plugs and wires for the sensors this weekend when I have time to move the alternator and Compressor out of the way. I had a local exhaust shop do the work. They welded new threads onto the piping and the O2's function fine I'm guessing, I have no DTC's pending or stored currently. I monitored both O2 sensors with my scan tool and saw they both had fluctuating voltages under idle and load.

Update: This morning I decided to let the truck warm up more than usual and instead of taking off quickly I slowly accelerated. The truck began to sputter and backfire a little bit and died at the stop sign, fired right back up and had trouble idling. I got on the gas and took off, sputtered again and cleared up. Truck runs great and idles great after I get going and ONLY does this in the morning after it's been sitting.
