Default Plenum plate/gasket replacement

I've finally decided to tackle this job myself, since I can't seem to find anyone to do it for a reasonable price.

Here's what I have ordered so far.....
Hughes engine plenum plate/gasket kit
180° thermostat
Thermostat gasket
O ring kit for fuel injectors
Both up and downstream o2 sensors.

From my reading I'm still in need of....
Throttle body gasket
Silicon (not sure which kind tho)
Coolant
Roll of shop towels.

What else do I need besides what I have listed?

Any and all help would be appreciated!

Single edge razor blades for cleaning gasket surfaces, NOT the ones for utility knives. also I always replace the constant tension clams on the heater and radiator hoses with worm style clamps.

Razor blades , check.
Worm style clamps, are those the ones that screw tighten?
Do I need to use black silicone?

Yes those are the ones that are screw tighten. You'll need 2 1.375 for the elbow between the pump and intake and 2 2.125 I believe for the upper radiator hose. This would be a good time to put them in the lower radiator hose also if you would like.

Yes you'll need a small amount of silicone for the corners of the intake gaskets where they meet. Black is fine. I personally use red high temp because we buy it by the tube at work so I get it from there.

I would also plan on doing an oil change once you're completed with the intake. If any coolant spills down into the engine you'll want to try to get most of it out because coolant doesn't lubricate bearings well if it get sucked through the oil pump.

I'll be sure to grab those clamps from the local parts house , I can get high temp red if I ts best.
an oil change is a certainty as soon as the plenum is done.
I just hope I can get this done on my own.

thanks for the advice!

It really isn't a difficult job. If this is your first time doing it and you don't have a lot of mechanical experience give yourself a whole weekend. If you have some mechanical experience 3-6 hours. Just take your time and take a few good picture of how all the wiring is routed beforehand.

Once everything is cleaned really well the most difficult part is probably setting the intake back onto the engine and not shifting the gaskets. If you got the felpro gasket set from Hughes then it's not too bad because the rubber ones have pegs that stick in holes to prevent it from moving. When you set the intake down verify no wires or electrical plugs slipped under it, it's happened before lol. Be sure to torque the intake bolts in the correct order and to the correct spec.

The sticky at the top of this page is a very good guide to follow. If you have any problems or questions along the way I'm sure someone will be able to help you on here in a short order.

Heck, since you're in there, might as well do the water pump and timing chain. Do it and be done with it.

wish I had more money to do those too, but being a laid off full time student on a tight budget doesn't allow me much for truck repairs.
