You can never go wrong with that fat of an alternator. You'll be quite happy with the TCP product. Going on 6 years with mine and originally they had a SPAL controller coupled with the SPAL fans. That controller could not keep up and upon calling them, they sent me a Derale. No issues at all. I gave them that feedback and they switched to that brand/model.

Jlake and I have discussed this on another forum. So this tells you that each controller has some particular issue. My spal could have been just defective and not reflective of entire device line. Same said for the Derale, which Jlake said was a problem for him. I'll mention my factory alt was 136amp (off road package). I'm now running a 160amp, direct mopar offering. I only upped to the 160amp because I added a 2nd battery and rear winch.

What is the 250amp alt you got? Me likes sounds of that because having margin is an absolute good thing in this respect!

I looked at TCP's web page and it seems they are not offering the Derale PWM controller any more.
Big Green -did you get the Davies Craig controller with your fan kit?

Wh1t3Nukle - i remember you mentioning that. I believe it was an option to get either controller, the one you have or the PWM???
I was wondering if the OP had the new controller they are offering. Im interested to see how it compares...

I got the alternator from BNR Parts. It is a direct fit for 97-98 Rams with gas engines. It has the correct 7-groove pulley and dual pin connection. Only $215! All the other direct fit alternators I looked at that made more than 160 amps were $400 and up, so I was pretty happy to find this.

I bought my TCP kit a couple years ago (my engine rebuild/truck restoration has been going on for 3.5 years). It came with the high amp Derale that Wh1t3NuKle has -part number 16789. I called TCP last week and asked why they changed from the Derale and if it was still supported and he said "about 3 out of 10 of the Derale controllers had problems." But he went on to tell me that they believe most of the problems arose out of the way people wired them up using the supplied butt connections or by not running all 3 grounds separately. So I soldered my connections and heat shrink-sealed them

The first derale controller i did an awesome job soldering/heat shrink all connections. For the 2nd, when derale warrantied the 1st bad controller, they sent me a new one i installed it as per their instructions. Even went so far as to send pictures to them to make sure everything was perfect.

I think the PWM wasnt up to the amps the fans pulled even though it said it was rated. The model controller you and wh1t3kukle are running seems to be the better choice!

Im going to have to remember the alternator you got for the future. With a good stereo system, off-road lighting and E-fans it would be ideal!

Sorry to clog up your thread with controller talk.
