Default 5 speed swap

Hey everyone. I'd like to hear from the guys who know what it takes to swap a 5 speed manual transmission in a 97 and how difficult it is.
Also I searched the topic but I couldnt find anything useful. Thanks in advance.

which 5 speed? there was the nv3500 and nv4500. assuming you are swapping from auto to manual? if you want nv3500 get a 97 1500 parts truck in the correct 4x4 or 4x2 configuration and start swappin parts... if you want the nv4500 it gets complicated depending on the application. in either case a computer reflash will be needed to get rid of the auto. if you were on the west coast i could make you a pretty good deal on a 97 parts truck. got it from a guy that snapped the bellhousing in half changing the clutch. perfect example of why i dont use impacts for that job.

Man I'd have to say it's a ton of work. I did mine in about a week, that is also with pulling the motor. I put a 200,000 mile nv3500 behind my 360, and it's been holding up fine, and I get on it pretty good.

Getting a parts truck is a must, no way you wanna buy everything separate, or pay that much separate anyway. I'd look for a 97 1500 manual, and start swapping. You'd need a new flywheel crank sensor for the 5.9 if swapping from a 5.2.

If your considering, th nv3500 is a better choice, more readily available, and it doesn't have a granny low unlike ty nv4500.
